How much would we take for the betrayal of Jesus?
Satan is really good at painting a glamorous, yet counterfeit, landscape of false promises on the other side of that betrayal agreement.
I fear betrayal has been a partnership of many a heart knowingly and unknowingly.
30 pieces of silver seemed worth the cost until it was done. Then the losses mounted up and must have been too overwhelming for Judas to bear.
He had such potential right in his midst, yet, he threw it all away. Freedom was in his grasp. Destiny mapped out for his future. The grass seemed greener on the other side, didn’t it?
Ever been there?
Let me ask you, gently, was it worth what it cost you? That betrayal seemed like a good move at the time, didn’t it? Yeah, that’s how deception works. The flesh gets some instant gratification, but sin always comes for the payday. Pride is the ultimate folly.
Do you see, now, how the losses far outweighed that which you thought you’d gain? All of those promises the devil whispered were pretty empty for most.
Dignity gone. Friendships gone. Testimony gone. Marriages gone. Honor gone. Laughter gone. Respect gone. Blessings gone.
30 pieces of silver.
Worth, perhaps, a lot.
But not near enough.
Jesus is the Master of a turnaround and always waiting for any heart to confess and ask for a “do-over.”
Let us be quicker than Judas to see our fault so that we don’t end up under a mighty heavy weight too much to bear on our own.
New Living Translation
and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.
(Matthew 26:15)
